I am a New York City native, but knew that I was "home" when we moved to Bucks County more than 23 years ago. I have been married to my husband Ed for 36 years and have two children,
Mai-Ann and Buddy.

In addition to writing non-fiction and fiction books, Marie Duess has more than 26 years of experience in marketing, communications and public relations, with the past 10 years of her career concentrated in the healthcare and non-profit sectors.  Her expertise includes writing/editing, public relations, press relations and event planning and execution. She is presently the Executive Vice President of Duess Consulting Services, LLC, which was founded by her husband Ed in 2005    

Before joining Duess Consulting Services, Marie was the Director of Marketing for the Comprehensive Breast Care and Aesthetics Institutes in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, developed by Diversified Specialty Institutes of Tennessee.

She also has handled promotion, advertising, public relations, publicity and press relations for St. Mary Medical Center during a period when this Catholic Health East (CHE) healthcare provider was twice named one of the “Top 100” community hospitals in America by Solucient, a leading provider of healthcare information.

While at St. Mary, Marie was responsible for the script writing and direction of several video productions for the medical center.  She wrote the copy for and acted as the art director for a history publication and a subsequent “Wall of History.”

Marie is a published author of two full-length historical novels, numerous magazine and newspaper articles, and assisted in the writing of the recently released, The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor’s Journey to Healing by Beth Baughman DuPree, M.D., FACS.   In 2007 she was commissioned to write a non-fiction history book, Colonial Inns and Taverns of Bucks County, for History Press Book Publishers, Inc., that was released in December 2007 followed by another, The Delaware Canal, From Stone Coal Highway to Historic Landmark, which was released in September 2008.

She was a freelance correspondent for Mature Lifestyles and other specialty publications for the Bucks County Courier Times, a member of the Calkins Publishing Group, and a freelance writer for Times Publishing Newspapers

An accomplished speechwriter, Marie’s clients include community leaders, clergymen, and business professionals.  She has ghostwritten and/or edited published articles by several physicians.  She also has conducted and developed creative writing workshops, motivational presentations, and lectures for local colleges.

Marie has served on the Board of the YWCA of Bucks County, and served for eight years on the Board of Trustees of Grey Nun Academy.  She is a past-President of the Women's Guild of St. Mary, was a founding member of The Healing Consciousness Foundation, serves on the Friends of St. Mark AME Church of Newtown, and volunteers for the Variety Club: A Children's Charity.

In 2004, Marie served as a photojournalist covering the first medical mission to refugee camps in Bosnia-Herzegovina for the humanitarian aid organization, His Work In Progress.
